Book your driving test GOVUK
Book your practical driving test for cars, motorcycles, lorries, buses, and coaches. Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) Part 2 and 3 Tests. This page is also available in Welsh (Cymreig). You can choose whether to wear a face covering during your test.
Book a test online
You'll be put in a queue if you want to book a driving test. You'll be told how long you'll need to wait once you start. You can book a driving test up to 24 weeks into the future. There's no waiting list or cancellation lists.
Before you start
You need your: UK driving license number. credit or debit account number. driving instructor’ s personal reference number if you wish to check they're available. You can check how much your driving test costs before you begin. You must have lived here for at least 185 days within the previous year before the day you take the test.
There’s a different type of booking system for driving tests in Northern Ireland. Cancellations are usually made by phone or email. Sometimes cancellations are made online.
Book a test to upgrade your licence
You can book your driving test online by calling the DVSA. They provide telephone help and advice on how to book a test. You can also call them to get information on what type of vehicle you should be taking the test in. The cost of this service is £3 per minute plus your phone company's access charge.
When you do not need a theory test
You must usually pass your theory test before booking a tractor test. You do not need to take a theory test to book an automatic to manual conversion. You do not need an upgrade test to progress through the motorbike categories (progressive access) or a lorry and trailer test when you've got a lorry licence or a bus and trailer test when you have a bus licence.
A medium lorry licence means you can drive a large truck or van. A minibus licence means you can drive smaller vehicles such as vans and buses.
Car
You should park your car at the shopping centre because it is closer than the test centre. The test centre is about 0.3 miles away from the shopping centre.
Bus
Preston bus station is about 0.6 miles from test centre.
Train
The station is approximately 9 minutes' walk from the test centre. It is 0.4 miles away (0.6 km). The train station address is Preston Train Station Fishersgate Preston Lancashire PR1 8AP.
Arriving at Preston Theory Test Centre
Public transport is available at Preston Train Station. You can get there by walking or by bus/taxi.
There's also the option of walking. Both the Waterstones bus stop (located on Fishergate Road) and Boots bus stop (located near the train station) are a 3-minutes walk away from the test centre. More info about the transport links in the city can be found by visiting the Preston City Council website, or you could simply Google 'Preston buses'.
Parking is simple. Just tap PR1 3NU onto a Sat Nav and drive off! Be aware of the traffic around rush hour as there may be delays.
Parking The theory test centre itself does not provide parking, but you will find some great options very near by. Glover's Court carpark is only 2 minutes from the destination and charges a very affordable £2.20 for two hours of parking. There is only 18 spaces available, so you may need to get in there pretty early.
This parking garage is very close to my house. I usually go there when I need to park my car quickly.

RESCHEDULING OR CANCELLING THE THEORY TEST
You need three working days notice before the test to change your appointment time. Saturday is included as a working day, but you do not need to give any notice.

You should always check your junk folder before sending out emails. If you haven't received an email confirming your theory test booking, then check your junk folder.
