Find a theory test centre

The GOV.UK website has information about where to take your theory tests and what it will cost. It's free to book your test online but if you want to pay by phone then you'll need to call 0300 123 5000.

Oxford Theory Test Centre

The Theory Test is a mandatory part of obtaining a licence to drive in the UK. It tests your ability to understand road signs and signals, and to follow simple instructions from traffic police. Your examiner will ask you questions about the road ahead, and give you directions and advice. You must answer correctly to pass.

Bus

The first thing you should know about buses is that they don’t run on time. If you want to catch one at peak times, it will probably be too late. They’re also not cheap – a single bus ticket costs £1.50.

Train

The train is a great way to travel around London. It’s cheap, fast and easy to navigate. There are plenty of stations throughout the city, so it’s easy to change trains if needed.

What is the theory test pass mark?

The theory test pass mark is 70%. This means that if you score less than 70%, then you will not be allowed to sit the practical test. If you fail both tests, you will not be able to drive at all.

Can I take my theory test online?

Yes, but it’s not recommended. The National Driver Licensing Agency (NDLA) says that taking the theory test at home could lead to errors and mistakes. It recommends that people take the test in person at a testing centre.

What is the waiting time for a theory test?

The average wait time at our centres is around two weeks. This will depend on which centre you choose, but we recommend booking well ahead if you want to avoid disappointment.

parking facilities

The majority of car parks in the UK are free to enter. There are some exceptions where you may need to pay a small fee to park. Some car parks charge extra if you want to leave your vehicle overnight. If you’re planning to visit a city centre during peak hours, it might be worth paying for a nearby garage.

national average

The national average is usually around £9 per hour. This includes any expenses incurred by the employer.

theory test pass rates

The theory test is a mandatory part of getting a licence in the UK. It tests your knowledge of road signs, rules of the road and general road safety. If you fail it, you will not be able to drive legally.
