Arriving at Northampton Theory Test Centre

Learners without friends or family nearby will be happy to know that this test centre is quite central. It's about a 9 minute walk from Northampton train station. Learners who need to travel into town by train should consider taking the bus instead.

There isn't any parking at the test centre itself, but there are plenty of other options nearby. Parking near the test centre costs £1.50 per hour, or £5 for two hours. Nearby parking lots cost £2 per hour, or £6 for two hours.

AFTER YOU HAVE BOOKED YOUR TEST

The DVSA now sends e-mails not letters. You must check your e-mail address before taking the theory test. If you haven't received an e-mail confirming your booking then check your junk folder. Print out this e-mail to give to the centre staff if there are any problems.

ATTENDING THE THEORY TEST

All theory test centres have pre-arranged allocated test times. Late arrivals may not be allowed to attend the test. Take along your photocard provisional driver licence. The paper counterpart of this document is no longer required. A valid passport is needed if you do not have a current UK driving licence. Apply for LGV and PCV theory practical driving tests

Once you have added provisional entitlement for the higher categories to you licence, you can begin driving lessons. When your instructor indicates you are nearly ready for a practical test, you can apply for a theory test. You must pass this before applying for a practical.

Drivers must be registered with the DVLA before driving any vehicle. There is a register for LGVs/PCVs. Instructors should be registered with the DVSA.

Theory test for LGV and PCV drivers

Theory test appointments can be booked online or by phone. You can change them and cancel them using the online booking system. You can also download applications and apply by post. Multiple choice and hazard perception tests are two separate tests. The theory test certificate is valid until 2 years after your first pass.

How To Get To Northampton Theory Test Centre

You should be prepared to walk to the theory test centre as there is no public transport available. There are toilets inside the building but you need to pay £1 to use them.

By car: are travelling by car. There are many parking spaces available. The train station is only a short distance away. The nearest car park is Milton Keynes.

You need to take a bus or train to get to the theory centre. If you're driving, make sure you have a provisional licence before you go to the theory centre.

The pass mark for the car test is 86% (43/50). You must answer at least 43 questions correctly to pass the multiple choice section. You must also pass the hazard perception test (44/75) to pass the overall theory exam.
