Theory test centres are usually located in convenient locations such as town centres and near to public transport links. However, it is important to check the exact location of your chosen test centre before your test date, as some test centres may have relocated since you booked your test.
The theory test consists of two parts – a multiple-choice part and a hazard perception part. You need to pass both parts to pass the theory test.

When you arrive at Hexham car driving theory test centre, you will need to present your provisional licence. The staff at the test centre will then give you a computer screen on which to take your multiple-choice questions. You have 57 minutes to answer 50 questions, and you need to get 43 correct to pass.
After the multiple-choice questions, you will be shown a series of 14 video clips. These will each feature one or more developing hazards. You need to identify the hazard in each clip as it develops, and click your mouse button when you see the hazard develop. You must score 44 out of 75 to pass this part of the test.
If you fail either part of the test, you can retake it as soon as you like. However, you will need to pay the full fee for each retake.
If you’re ready to take your theory test, you can book online or by phone. You will need to provide your provisional driving licence number when you book. Theory tests can be taken from Monday to Friday, and some theory test centres also offer Saturday testing.
