If you are planning to take your driving theory test in Belfast, you might be wondering where to go and what to expect. The Belfast Driving Theory Test Centre is located in the City Exchange building, on Gloucester Street in the heart of the city centre. The building has a cream-coloured exterior and large glass windows. You can easily spot Arthurs Coffee Shop on the ground floor. The test centre is on the first floor, in Suite 1B.
The test centre is easily accessible by public transport, as it is close to several bus stops and train stations. The nearest bus stops are May Street (St. George’s Market), Victoria Street, Victoria Square (Chichester Street), and Donegal Square. The nearest train stations are Lanyon Place and Great Victoria Street, both within a 10-minute walk from the test centre.
You will be asked to store your belongings in a locker before entering the test room. You are not allowed to take anything with you except your licence or passport. You will be given a computer and headphones to take your test. The test consists of two parts: multiple-choice questions and hazard perception. You will have 57 minutes to answer 50 questions, and you need to score at least 43 out of 50 to pass. Then you will watch 14 video clips and identify developing hazards, and you need to score at least 44 out of 75 to pass.
You will get your results immediately after finishing your test. If you pass, you will receive a pass certificate with a number that you will need to book your practical driving test. If you fail, you will receive feedback on your performance and advice on how to improve. You can retake your theory test after three working days.
